Collection Client Questions

Q. As a client, can I add the cost of collections to the amount on the account?

A. The only way that this can be done is if the original contract includes these allowances or provisions. If there are any questions, you should check with your attorney.

Q. How soon after I turn accounts over to you can I expect to have my money?

A. That all depends on the age of the account when it is turned to us, what information you can provide us with, etc. The national average for collections is 7.4%. You increase the chances of collections by turning the accounts to us as soon as possible and providing us with all information that you have on the customer. This includes advising us of new information that you get after an account is turned to us for collections.

Personal Questions

Q. How long does my information stay on my credit file?

A. Most negative information can stay for 7 years, however a bankruptcy can stay for 10 years. Accounts that are not negative may stay forever.

Q. Do inquires on my credit report lower my score?

A. This is not as simple as a yes or no. Inquiries happen when a company pulls your credit report, usually in response from you for credit. When this happens your score is affected, however, in recent years the effect has been lessened. Now if you are shopping for a new car you can have many credit reports pulled and your score will only reflect the first report. This allows you to shop for your favorite car at the best rate.

Q. What is a credit score and how can I find out what my score is?

A. A credit score is a mathematical expression of your credit worthiness. It is developed using information provided by companies that have loaned you money, by public records (bankruptcy, judgments against you, etc.) and the amount you owe among other factors.

Q. How do I opt out of direct mailing lists?

A. Many Companies market consumer product and services by mail. Millions of people take advantage of these direct marketing opportunities because it is a convenient way to shop. If you prefer not to receive direct marketing mailings, you can request that your name be removed from marketing lists by contacting the Direct Marketing Association.

Many credit card companies and lenders utilize the three national Credit Reporting Agencies and their databases to offer pre-approved credit. If you would like your name removed from Equifax, TransUnion, Experian and Consumer Credit Associates lists, you can call the OPT OUT request line at 1-888-5 OPT OUT (1-888-567-8688). An automated attendant will ask you for your personal identifying information, including your Social Security number that will be kept confidential. This automated attendant will remove your name from these lists for two years. If you wish your name to be permanently deleted, you can leave your information, and a form will be mailed to you for this purpose. If you name has been removed, and you now wish it to be placed back on the list, you can request this service also.
